In South Carolina, Donald Trump was the winner. With 239,851 votes, 33% of the vote and all 50 delegates, this has been a major victory for Trump who was already the clear frontrunner. Senator Marco Rubio came second with 165,881 votes, 22% of the vote. Despite getting no delegates, this has been a great victory for Rubio too. This is the first time he has come second in any state and he was expected to come third, after Ted Cruz. Senator Cruz came third with 164,790, 22% of the vote and boy was it close! He came just behind Marco Rubio but this is still a disappointment for Cruz's team as he was expected to come second. Jeb Bush got a distant 4th place position with 57,863 votes, 8% of the vote. This was such a bitter dissapointment for Jeb that he has now officially dropped out of the race. This is great news for Rubio, as many of Jeb's wealthy donors will switch to Rubio now that Jeb is gone. Next, at a close 5th place, came John Kasich with 56,206, 8% of the vote. Kasich failed to gain momentum after coming second in New Hampshire and this was a pretty bad defeat for him, if he doesn't start doing well again quickly, we can probably expect him to drop out pretty soon. With just 53,326, 7%, at sixth place came Dr Ben Carson. This was a significant defeat for Carson who has been doing badly in other primaries until now too and is expected to drop out soon.
Meanwhile, in Nevada, Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton got with 6,316 votes, 53% and 19 delegates. This was a much needed victory after her defeat in New Hampshire at the hands of Bernie Sanders. Senator Sanders got 5,678, 47% and 15 delegates.
